April 1998 Meeting Minutes
Present: Mark Perry, Peggy Perry, Helene Bethke, Neil Giffey, Richard Rohowetz, Cheryl Lemanki, Cheryl Schmidt
* The Meeting minutes for the April meeting and treasurer's report were approved with the following corrections:
our PO Box # is 321 instead of 123 and changed Mr. Richard R. to read Dr. Richard R.
* We have 6 new members this month
* We have sold 2 Sesqui certificates and 2 Pioneer member certificates
* Richard found some very nice black presentation covers that could be sold in conjuction with the certificates.
Suggested cost of an addition $3 for now. Mark will weigh a complete package and let us know the cost at the next
meeting.
* We will add a blank to collect telephone numbers on the certificate applications. This has been needed already.
* A motion made by Mark and 2nd by Peggy to limit the number of characters (letters) on the certificates. Also,
we'll aks for the wife's maiden name. The certificate application will ask for their name "exactly as it should
appear". The Officers titles may appear on the certificate and there will be gold foil on these certificates.
* The Rural Register Indexing Project:
Richard has scanned in a couple more years
Peggy is currently at 36 indexed pages
We have only 3 more years and we'll have all issues under that "name" of the "register". Copy
costs are 7 cents per page in Platteville vs. 25 cents per page at the SHSW. That is approximately $7.00 vs. $40.00
to copy all the issues from mid 1985 when the paper started using the Register name. it was decided to go ahead
and copy these issues at the $7.00 cost.
* Cheryl L. doesn't feel that she has the time to devote to proofreading what has been indexed. Cheryl S. agreed
to proofread in her place.
* Cheryl L. will contact the UW Platteville library and get the microfilms interlibrary loaned that we need to
finish the first years of this paper.
* Cheryl L. will also contact Mary F. and request that she send us the information on the Sesquicentennial certificate
that she has paid for so that we may issue her certificate and cash her check. Mary's check was written for both
her membership and the certificate.
* We may have a table at Farmer's Appreciation Day, if we also staff the Dodgeville Revitalization table.
* We need to contact ICHS and get a list/map of cemeteries. Mark will pursue this. Some cemeteries in the county
have already been indexed, but years ago. Member Judy Temby has done Highland cemeteries St. Phillips and Highland
public. Someone else has done some Arena ones as well.
* Richard says the "Paper Port Deluxe" software works nice for indexing and a word search can be done,
no further software will be looked into at this time.
* A grant is being offered by Broderbund. Mark will write up an application for a microfilm reader. It is due June
15.
* We also should get the Dodgeville Chronicle to interview ICGS, as this would publicize the organization and our
certificate program
