August 1998 Meeting Minutes:
Present: Peggy Perry, Mark Perry, Helene Bethke, Cheryl Schmidt, Kathy Stoltz, Neil Giffey
* Secretary and Treasurer reports read and accepted.
* Seminar report: Origins is unable to attend. Storbecks's of Milwaukee was contacted and they will be here along
with Creative Memories. Helene has been working on door prizes and has several items accumulated from local businesses.
Cheryl S. volunteered to work our table at the seminar. Brochures were sent to all the libraries within 2 hours
of Dodgeville and to local genealogical/historical societies as far north as LaCrosse county and as far south as
Rockford, IL. It was decided to pay Jeff Trickle $40.00 for his speaking at our seminar.
* Rural Register: Helene is still trying to find a cover. She has found some photos that we could use, the best
one being the Opera House in Montfort. Cheryl S. and Kathy are almost finished with the proofreading of the index.
They should have it completed within a week.
* Cemetery indexing: we discussed what other information do we want to obtain for our index besides what appears
on the stone. Peggy is still waiting to see what member Judy Temby has done. She has said that she has notes attached
to most of the stones and we would like to see exactly what she has before we determine "what else?".
* Cornish Festival: we may have an advertisement in their syllabus for just $10.00. This was agreed upon to go
ahead and submit the ad.
* Research services were established at last month's meeting, however, the idea of offering a member discount was
not addressed at that meeting. This was discussed and decided upon a $5.00 per hour discount for research services,
but not for lookups. That price will remain the same.
* Dodgeville library offer: a bit more discussion was held on this topic. Peggy will meet with Krista (the librarian)
a bit later, perhaps after the New Year to work out more details. Neil suggested that the library be rearranged
slightly to move a table and chairs into the small open area creating a research table. Eileen would like to see
any photocopy money from our materials put into their microfilm machine fund, which she has contributed to in the
past. Peggy is working on indexing all of the collection that we have to date, along with the articles within each
magazine to further help the public. This database will be in print at the library and also on our web site.
