May 1998 Meeting Minutes
Present: Peggy Perry, Mark Perry, Helene Bethke, Neil Giffey, Cheryl Lemanski, Eleanor Nelson, Eileen Arndt
* Minutes of April 1998 meeting and Treasurer's report were approved.
* A question of whether a refund could be issued from a certificate purchase could be done. Neil moved to reject
refunds, seconded by Helene. No money will be refunded once it has been paid.
* We have added 3 new members this month
* We've sold 1 more Sesqui and 1 more Founding Member certificate, for a total of 3 each.
* Helene will order the microfilm(s) needed for the Montfort Rural Register (starting in 1985)
* For the cover of the index, a photo of the old hotel is suggested or a tombstone drawing could be used also
* ICGS has been accepted in Wisconsin State Genealogical Society (WSGS) and is now an affiliate member.
* The Fall Seminar, October 3rd, is still a go. We haven't yet priced rooms and Jeff needs to be checked with for
a firm plan and alternate speakers needed to be looked into.
* Broderbund grant application is finished
* Queries to our web site will only be posted if we have a complete name and snail mail address. Motion by Helene,
2nd by Neil.
* Our ICGS library acqusitions will be posted on the net site, however, copyright law will be checked upon before
we offer to copy articles for folks.
* We are planning on hosting a table for Farmer's Appreciation Day and to have a float in the parade on Sunday,
July 12th.
* Peggy reported on the Regional Meeting that she and Cheryl L. attended. There were ideas for volunteers and publicity.
Cheryl reported on libraries
* Cemeteries that have been recently indexed include:
- Avoca, Pulaski, Otter Creek Lutheran by Eunice McCredie.
- Eden/Bohemian by Richard Rohowetz.
- White Church, Barneveld by Eileen Arndt
- 3 Brigham cemteries by Cheryl Schmidt and Kathy Stoltz
- 3 Wyoming cemeteries by Cheryl Schmidt and Kathy Stoltz
- Hyde cemeteries by Cheryl Schmidt and Kathy Stoltz
- Mifflin cemetery by Eleanor Nelson
Copy all information from the stones and record in "rows" for position. No set time frame for completion,
just working on them to get started with this project.
* Lookup requests - Eleanor volunteered to do Dodgeville Chronicle requests and Eileen has volunteered to do the
Iowa County courthouse and ICHS lookups.
* Everyone is going to check and see what charges are in the marketplace for lookups. It was suggested $10 for
a quick lookup in the courthouse and the person must write and request the actual record from the courthouse themselves.
$15 was also suggested. The wording was questioned as should it be a donation or a fee charged?
* We are exchanging newsletters with Taylor, LaFayette, and Grant counties.
* We will be sending copies of our newsletters to the ARC in Platteville, State Historical Society of Wisconsin
in Madison, and Allen County Public Library in Fort Wayne, Indiana (Compiler of PERSI).
* The July meeting will be held at Mark and Peggy's home. We're planning, weather permitting, on an outdoor meeting
with a backyard campfire.
* Our August meeting will be held on August 26 instead of August 19, as Cheryl L. will be attending the FGS conference
in Cincinnati and Mark and Peggy will be on vacation.
