Library Update:
The written agreement has been approved by the library board (with a few minor changes).
Highlights:
ICGS will catalog and supply a list of titles (on paper & on web site-with a hyper link from Dodgeville library
to ICGS).
Priority for use goes to a member first, over general public for using the Microfiche reader that we are providing.
Library will create a research atmosphere and provide magazine holders.
The materials will be reference, not circulating.
A walk though will be held quarterly.
After the area is set-up, an open house/party/workshop will be planned to invite the local community to use this
resource.
Currently we have 5 boxes of magazines.
Kathy has talked to the Registrar of Deeds. The school record books are 'upstairs'. Probate is excited to have
ICGS develop a computerized index.
They will work off the actual records. Name, probate date, death date, birth date, & remarks will be collected
and possibly more.
Iowa County Historical Society has some school & tax records. Early probate records #1-97 were donated to SHSW,
microfilmed (we hope) and thrown
away. Probate says all early guardianship records were thrown away.
Web site statistics:
We had 4,395 total hits in January. Saturday, Jan 23rd, was the busiest day with 280 hits. The page with the most
hits is the membership page. Overall
the main/index page had the most hits, with 'surnames', 'databases', 'queries' and 'links' following in the order
for the last 3 months.
This meeting was our shortest meeting yet, a new record was set! And it wasn't even snowing/icing this evening!
Next meeting to be held April 15 at 7 pm at Dodgeville City Hall.
