June 1999 Meeting

June 17, 1999

This meeting is held at the home of member Eunice McCredie on picturesque Lakeshore Dr. in Avoca, WI.

Present are Eunice McCredie, Mark Perry, Peggy Perry, Judy Temby, Helene Bethke, Cheryl Schmidt, Janet Perkins, and Mary Freymiller. Each of these people are members - there are no guests in attendance for this meeting.

Minutes were amended to read $13.40 (not $13.20) for the proposed amount of a Wisconsin birth certificate. Minutes were approved by Judy, 2nd by Cheryl.

Brochures were discussed. We should be placing brochures at 'historic places' such as Pendarvis, Shot Tower Park, etc.

Cemetery Indexing updates. Otter Creek - Eunice has it just about ready. Judy is going to Highland. A person with the surname of Denby has already done Arena and Cheryl and Kathy are in the process of verifying the information with the actual grave stone.

WSGS is posting the cemeteries that have been published on their web site.

Mary mentioned their was a Catholic project (at least in Fennimore) where the plots were 'computerized indexed' Janet and Philip Schwabe are checking the Pulaski cemetery. Philip is
interviewing folks who parents are buried there.

Grant and Lafayette counties have gotten county money for jobs for youth and had projects cleaning and fixing up cemeteries (standing stones back up, fixing fences, etc) The town board (or whomever is the authority) should be petetioned to maintain the cemetery. By law they
must maintain the Wisconsin cemeteries. Access to a cemetery cannot be denied, they have to allow access. Try to bring family members/relatives to petition the board to ask for money for upkeep.

Probate Indexing Project: work is continuing on the project.

Library Project: Peggy and Helene filled a car trunk with periodicals at the Milwaukee Count Genealogical Society Seminar held in April. We should let Virginia Irwin (WSGS Treasurer) know we'd be interested in old WSGS periodicals.

Web Stats for May. Averaged 4,193 hits. 19 + 9 from CyndisList.com (the most from one place), 15 from gen-homepage.com and 4 from gen-web.

Votes for amendment to ByLaws.
8 votes for #1, 6 for #2. Option #1 wins.

New member packets were discussed. Some items that might be included:
Bylaws, list of counties spun off from Iowa (& year of), Pedigree chart,
volunteers and things to do, list of projects we are working on.
