ICGS January 2001 Meeting Summary
January 17, 2001 - Dodgeville City Hall
Attended: Peggy Perry, Mark Perry, Cheryl Schmidt, Gertude Peterson
Treasurer's report: Treasurer's report read. Approved by concensus. Peggy gave a year-to-date report. Membership is the main source of income. Advertising was the highest expense. The Project monies in from sales was double what was paid out.
October Meeting Summary revision: A correction. Kathy Stoltz was nominated for Publicity/Newsletter
officer. Motion to accept the change and approved by concensus. November 2000 meeting summary was read. The
new meeting day will be the 3rd Wednesday of each month from Thursday.
Cemetery Project: Rock Church and Long Valley cemeteries have been adopted by Gert Peterson. The
cemetery project is looking good. The majority have been adopted and they are coming in at a steady rate.
Probate Records: ICGS owns some probate records. One of Peggy's purchases for the library. We have
plans to index them, make copies and preserve the originals. The Probate records at the Courthouse had been started,
very little completed. A project that can be done is to make copies of the microfiche copies and then index them.
There is at least one volunteer for the indexing portion, Cheryl Schmidt. Now, to find copiers....
Moscow Book: Indexing of the Moscow book is moving fast. Two of the three people have gotten theirs
done, and the 6 months is no where near done. Good job! This is the 1901 History of the Town of Moscow book.
Beginning Genealogy Lessons: Due to the lack of interest, they have been scratched. Since the "teachers"
have put so much work into the lessons, and we all learn something, the classes will be offered as meeting programs.
So come to the meetings to "learn genealogy". February's meeting will be "Citing Your Sources",
a very important part of genealogy. Thank you Mark Perry.
Folk Finder Folly: The Society had purchased some materials from the Folk Finders booth from our
Spring Seminar last year. We never received the goods even after several attempts at contacting the owner. We
finally got word. She has closed down her shop; good news, she reimbursed our money.
Library Project: Our Society has many items already for the Library. Peggy has ben working with
the Library for a loooooong time trying to get space for all of our materials. It looks like some movement is
being made. Peggy met with the librarian again. The contract that we had drawn up with and for the library has
been approved and discussion was had on where we would be able to set up. There is a storage room with a table.
We'll be able to use our microfiche and microfilm reader there.
Membership Booklet: A booklet given to all new members detailing the Society and it's mission. Peggy
and Mark Perry and Cheryl Schmidt worked on getting the editing done. There's a few problems with the printing
portion that Peggy's doing that she reports should be straightened out by the end of the month.
Projects: All these things listed above are our projects. Discussion was had on when we should put
our books out to libraries after we print them. We want plenty of time to sell and still make them available.
We decided to wait one year or when the next set comes out, whichever is longer. Approved by concensus.
Miscellaneous: No Vice-President yet. Otherwise every office is officially accepted and begun.
Discussed that we are a member of the Dodgeville Chamber of Commerce. The Cornish American Society's Gathering
of Cornish Cousins is September 27-30, 2001. Peggy has been asked to speak on walking cemeteries.
