ICGS Meeting Summary - November 2001
November 21, 2001
Dodgeville City Hall
7:12
Present: Mark and Peggy Perry, Dawn Phelan, Kathy Stoltz, Cheryl Schmidt
Secretaries Report: On the listing of magazines, it is not Everton's Heritage Quest, it is just Everton. Motion
to approve the minutes as corrected by Dawn. Seconded by Kathy.
Treasurer's Report: The miscellaneous $5.00 cost from the previous meeting was found. Cheryl motioned to approve
both months reports. Kathy seconded. It was mentioned to get all 2001 expenses in in 2001. All research requested
in 2001 done in 2001. Just to keep things straight.
Cemetery Project: Eileen Arndt adopted 2 sections of the East Side cemetery in Dodgeville. That is the super
huge cemetery which Peggy has divided into about 12 sections with about 300 stones in each section. East side
is on the website in sections to adopt. Pat Holstein has a section. Pat also turned in Laxey/Manx cemetery out
on Hwy Q by Bloomfield Cemetery. Cheryl and Kathy turned in 2 of their cemeteries, Dover on Hwy. 14 and Demby
Road. (They had 18 stones between the 2 of them).
No change on the Moscow book project, the library or the probate records.
The Society received another generous gift. A book given for our library. The Coad-Knight family. Three Old,
Old Houses in Mineral Point and the Coad-Knight Families That Lived In Them. Thank you.
Funeral cards Project: Asking the area funeral homes to save the society a funeral card (those little cards handed
out at funerals with a lot of information on them) for any and all funerals from Iowa County. Discussion on which
funeral homes. Decided to call to ask for them and ask if they wanted to mail them or someone stops by, monthly,
to pick them up. The area funeral homes are Dodgeville, Ridgeway, Mineral Point, Muscoda, Montfort, Highland,
Spring Green and Mazomanie. (Yes we know they're not in Iowa County but Iowa County people get buried out of them)
Holiday Cheer for friendsnfamily.net-our host for the website has asked for nothing for the last couple of years.
He would like to upgrade and it will cost him lots of money. Peggy motioned to give a gift and Cheryl seconded
it.
Genealogy Fair-Jan. 12, 2002. 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. ICGS is going to have a booth. It's at the Covenant Presbyterian
Church on Segoe and Mineral Point Roads in Madison. Dawn, Cheryl and Peggy will man the booth. A chapter of the
Wis. State Genealogical Society puts this on.
Did the officers nomination. Had some nice comments from the nominators. Dawn doesn't like our policy that if
you aren't at the meeting you may get nominated. And she's the one that did it first!
Naturalization Records Presentation in Platteville. Dawn and Peggy attended. They learned a lot in the 1 hour
session. We learned that Peggy doesn't like Dawn's driving. Lots of screaming going on. Peggy mentioned hair
dye.
We will have an information page on our website of the most frequently asked questions.
January we'll start on our resource manual. The survey on the newsletter (if we put it on a secured page of our
website or keep mail) will be done by March newsletter.
Next meeting January 16, 2002. Happy Holidays!
