Iowa County Genealogical Society Minutes

October 17, 2001
Dodgeville City Hall

Attendence: Connie DeMuth, Dawn Phelan, Mark and Peggy Perry, Cheryl Schmidt, Kathy Stoltz

Connie is a member from the Burlington Wisconsin area. She was in the area for a funeral and doing some research so thought she'd stick around for the meeting. It was nice meeting you Connie!

Secretaries Report: Motion to approve. This took some time as there was a lot of laughter going on over the minutes. Motion by Dawn. Second by Connie.

Treasurer's Report: Lots of research was completed, Dawn was very busy (round of applause). We had some new memberships and we sold a book. The expenses list needs some clarification. An amended version will be submitted at the November meeting.

Cemetery Project: St Mary's in Mineral Point was handed in by Eileen Ardnt. Good job Eileen. Discussion on the East Side in Dodgeville, it could not be done in one book. It will be divided into sections, each section has about 300 stones. The Dietzman Cemetery in Mifflin will be done by Connie.

The Moscow Book and the probate records have been moved from stack A to stack B. All Right!

Resource Manual: This project was brought up by Peggy at last months meeting. Something she had learned at the Quad City Seminar (FGS). (See it does pay to go to those) At the Cornish Gathering, Peggy met a member and asked her idea of what she would want to see in a resource manual. This would be a manual, kind of like our membership booklet, telling of any and all sources available in Iowa County for genealogists.

Mineral Point Cemetery: On State Street. In really bad state, stones stacked against trees. Just a mess and sad. Lots of vandalism.

Everton.com: Do we want to join. We can list on their website. List membership info, what we sell. $50.00 a year we are listed on their website. Any purchases made through our listing we get a percentage and our members get a discount. Dawn made a motion to join and try for a year; Kathy seconded it

Gift: Peggy was offered a gift for the Society. The woman will let us print and sell her family book as a fundraiser for the Society. Approved.

Discussion on the Yahoo Groups messages that Peggy sends every month. Wondering how they're doing. If we like. Mentioned another possible use for the Yahoo group. Will do a survey to determine if it's something we want. We could do the newsletter via e-mail instead of hardcopy. Or we could offer the newsletter on our website, on a hidden address. The survey will pertain to this. Let us know what you think.

Nominations: Eileen nominated all current officers to the same positions. No one declined. Kathy remembered that we have no Vice President. Now Dawn had left early because hers so smart hers had five wisdom teeth and had them pulled that day. Not smart once you have the teeth removed! The way it goes in the Society is if it's nominating time and you aren't there, you got the job. Kathy knows this. Dawn did it to her on the publicity/newsletter position. So we have a nomination for VP too. Kathy, why do you have your fists up hollering, Let her come! after you nominated Dawn?

Kathy made a motion to adjourn. Mark seconded.
