ICGS September 2001 Meeting Summary

When: September 19, 2001
Where: Tower Hill State Park, Spring Green
Present: Dawn Phelan, Helene Bethke, Peggy and Mark Perry, Cheryl Schmidt and two little bats

Nice large shelter, fire going in the fireplace. Helene treated with s'mores.

Treasurer's Report: A couple of new memberships in. We're at the same number of members in September as we had all of last year. Motion to approve by Cheryl, seconded by Dawn.

Secretary's report: July minutes: One of the magazines listed was wrong, it was Heritage Quest. Couple of things mentioned about the August minutes. Dawn motion to approve with the changes, seconded by Peggy.

Cemetery Project: Several more cemeteries have been handed in, such as Long Valley in Hollandale and Calvary. Should be printing a new book by spring. Cheryl made note to self, call Kathy, get to work.

Probate and Moscow Book Projects: No change.

Library Project: More freebies at the conference in the Quad Cities. Our duplicates of periodicals were to be put on the library's sale. They got missed. Discussed new purchases. Helene suggests/motions the society purchase Volume 1 Territorial Papers. A book with minutes of the county board meetings, the early ones. Seconded by Mark.

FGS Seminar in the Quad Cities: Mark, Peggy and Helene attended. It was an exciting time! Helene got busted in Rock Island, Illinois and Peggy got locked in the stairwell. There were 9 different sessions to hit per hour. Each of the delegates gave a synopsis of what sessions they took. Mark had pictures and found a relative at the conference. It was the 25th anniversary of the FGS. There were 1,290 people there. Lots of information about and from the Salt Lake City resources. Helene got to go see one of the special speakers from Salt Lake City and gave a report. Then she reported on the dinner she won at the Radisson, salmon, caesar salad, and a fantastic chocolate cake.

One of the things learned at the conference was a County Resource Guide. The society will be working on that in the next few months. A listing of all sources in your county. Another good idea learned was to include a publication list with each and every book sold. Approved by consensus.

Time for Peggy's s'more. Dawn motioned to adjourn. Darker than pitch getting to the car. Thanks Mark for the light.

Next meeting October 17, 2001 at the Dodgeville City Hall. Had been planned to do it at the Cave of the Mounds. The season is over so we'd have to have it on Sunday which may limit the number of people that attend.
