ICGS March Meeting Minutes
February 20, 2002
7:00 pm - City Hall, Dodgeville

Present: Mark Perry, Peggy Perry, Kathy Stoltz, Cheryl Schmidt and Dawn Phelan

Secretary's Report: I had forgotten what we were discussing at the previous meeting and couldn't read my own notes! We discussed a new research request. From the cemetery books, we would give out the dates if they want just one person instead of buying the book. It will cost them $5.00. I also mentioned the new project indexing the pictures at an establishment in Arena. We found out that it was already done. The people at the meeting didn't realize we were going to do it so soon. We had a good laugh. Dawn motion to approve as corrected. Kathy seconded.

Treasurer's Report: Lots of membership in. A few new people. Peggy motion to approve. Kathy seconded.

Probate Records: Peggy found these probate records at a yard sale so she purchased them. Our plan was to index them and to archive them. Well in order to archive, we had to run copies, etc. They are finally done!! The packets, about 40 of them, were handed out to Dawn, Kathy and Cheryl to index. We can mark up the copies, we number the pages, index names, dates, even the judges. The race is on! The next part of the project is the archiving. We had checked on what supplies we would need to store these records for use in our section of the Dodgeville library. Cheryl motioned to approve the spending of about $250.00 for the archiving of the probate records. Kathy seconded.

Funeral Cards: Some funeral homes have been contacted. Some to go yet. It's being received well though. This is asking the local funeral homes for copies of the funeral cards to be indexed at a later date.

Genealogy Open House-Platteville-March 2, 2002. Peggy was probably going to be the only one able to go.

Peggy wants to post a want ad in the newsletter for help. We need a webmaster and a correspondence secretary. Check the newsletter.

Resource Manual-discussion on who we were going to solicit for information. The townships, villages, VFW's, Legions, newspapers, etc. Anyone who has genealogy information available in our county. So then we "wrote" the letter that will be sent out to these organizations finding out what they have available, how it can be accessed and where. Of course we are enclosing a SASE (self-addressed stamped envelope).

Motion to Adjourn-Rippley the Bunny!
