Present: Mark Perry, Peggy Perry, Kathy Stoltz, Cheryl Schmidt and Dawn Phelan
We had a last minute meeting location change - City Hall was occupied with a special meeting. We gathered at the
Red Room bar instead.
Kathy, Cheryl and Dawn have been indexing the probate records. Discussion on how that was going, what we were finding.
There's some interesting stuff in those.
At the time of the meeting, we had one response to the game in the newsletter. Was it too tough?
In the newsletter it was mentioned that we needed two people for a couple of positions. Peggy has given notice
that she will not run for president next year and she has lots of projects that she would like to get done. She
wants to get volunteers for these positions now so that she can "train" these positions and get some
projects done. One of the positions is picking up the society's mail and distributing it. This has to be a local
person. The other position is the website master. This position can be held by anyone in the society that has a
little website experience.
There were 123 letters sent out to the different organizations in the county to put in the resource manual. This
manual would detail all sources of genealogy available in Iowa County. There were 3 returned, bad addresses. We
had 2 responses already, one from the zoning department and one from a funeral home.
We finally got to the Secretary's report. The probate records were not found at a garage sale but on the internet
as mentioned last month. Dawn made a motion to accept the minutes as approved. Kathy seconded.
The treasurer's report motion to approve by Peggy. Seconded by Kathy.
The next few meetings and places were discussed. The April meeting is at Dawn's house in Dodgeville (She has rabbits,
so an Easter meeting!)
May meeting- has been changed to May 22nd because of the NGS conference in Milwaukee. That will be in Arena at the VFW hall. Cheryl is looking to get a speaker on the underground railroad.
June 19 meeting will be at Peggy and Mark Perry's house in Dodgeville with bonfire and roasted marshmallows.
July 17 meeting will be at Cheryl's house, the annual pool party.
August 21 meeting is being checked on. We're checking on a stud party in Dodgeville.
The September 25 meeting will be held at Tower Hill State Park again (date change due to other conflicts).
And the October 16 meeting will be at Dawn Phelan's house, a hot tub party (she's hoping it will be done by then)
And the November meeting will be held at City Hall in Dodgeville.
This was a very informal meeting. A lot of our meetings are. Come on out and join us. This last meeting we were
going to call Genealogy a.k.a. Home Improvement!
Adjourned by Bungee (one of Dawn's rabbits or Dawn) Seconded by Kathy.
