is working on a project to identify and record each cemetery in Iowa County,
Wisconsin. This is an ongoing endeavor. Each cemetery listed to the left
(databases on this site) have been recorded in full and put into book form.
Each cemetery book includes: a history of the church/cemetery, some of the
different military grave marker photos, fraternal organization grave marker
photos, an abbreviation guide to the acronyms used throughout the books,
alphabetical listing of the deceased names (including women's maiden names,
when known!), numerical listing by location within the cemetery (get to
know the neighbors!), and a graphical illustration showing the layout of
each stone that we found. The layout is not necessarily in sync between
the rows - depending upon the size of the cemetery. The larger the cemetery
the more out of sync they are. But each individual row is in the correct
order as we found the stones. Some books contain more than 1 cemetery, in
this instance, we have also included a complete alphabetical index to every
name throughout the book. This website will not include all of this data. Instead, we have provided you with the alphabetical index to the names in each cemetery, including maiden names and aliases that we have found along the way. If you believe that you have found the ancestor that you're searching for, you may purchase the book. A link on the individual cemetery pages will take you to the order form where you'll find all the information needed. Just a note on how to use the data listed in the pages of the books. All of the information contained in every field is the information that we found on the individual stones. Any additional data is listed in the COMMENTS field. This could include parents names, full birth or death dates, notations on where other family members are buried, maiden names, etc. Something to keep in mind here is this. If a family has a large headstone with their surname on it, this was listed as a separate stone. If they have footstones near this headstone that do NOT list their surname, their surname was not captured. Even though the stones may look similar enough to assume that these were the family members, we did not make that assumption. We wanted to collect the facts as we found them. So a good idea is to check for the surname in the SURNAME column first. If found with the notation "Headstone only", then check the stones with no surnames listed to see if you find any potential matches and refer to the numerical listing. Women's maiden names, when known, were crossed referenced in the books and on this site. Not certain if your family members are listed here and you don't wish to scan through each cemetery? No problem! Just go to our Home page and use the search engine provided (please allow 24 hrs from the posted update date on our home page for all of the information to be included in the search engine). We suggest just searching for the surname of your choice for ultimate results. Even if you do know the cemetery where your ancestors are buried, try out the search engine too. Never know where the "black sheep" of the family may show up! As new books are created and published, more cemeteries will come online. Here's a listing of all the cemeteries known to us and their status! Happy Hunting! A creation of BorderLab Productions Copyright 1998 - 2005
