Members from our Society have volunteered their time to help out with research.
We will visit the Iowa County Courthouse and Dodgeville Public Library,
where the ICGS library is housed. Courthouse research is limited to vital records (birth: 1877 to present, death: 1877 to present, and marriage: 1852 to present), probate records and land records. We are not able to provide actual copies of vital records for you. We are able to view and transcribe them for you. Information will be provided on how to order a certified copy for a transcribed record. We will not undertake court record research other than probate. Library research at the Dodgeville Public Library is limited to Iowa County history books and articles from our library collection ONLY when you can provide the article title, periodical title, and issue date. See our library listing on this site. Rural Register Newspaper Obituaries, Montfort, WI (1985-1997). Scanned copies of the obituaries that we indexed in this book are available for $5.00 for each name ordered. If there are 2 entries for the same exact name, you pay just the $5.00. Please provide the name and the publication date(s) along with your payment. We have broken requests into 2 categories: lookups and research. We define a lookup to be 20 minutes or less of research time for a single record. Any time spent beyond 20 minutes will be considered research. Fees: Members Lookups: $5.00 per record requested, postage and copy charges included. Payment is required with your request. ** + Research: $10.00 per hour with a $10.00 minimum, copies and postage are extra. The first hour's fee is required with your request. When your request has been completed, we will contact you with an outline of our findings and the total fee due. Remaining payment is required before we are able to mail your "goodie" package to you.** + Fees: Non-Members: Lookups: $5.00 per record requested, postage and copy charges included. This fee would apply to receive a copy of any record in our searchable database(s) as well as any other lookup as defined. Payment is required with your request. ** + Research: $15.00 per hour with a $15.00 minimum, copies and postage are extra. The first hour's fee is required with your request. When your request has been completed, we will contact you to let you know the total fee due. Remaining payment is required before we are able to mail your "goodie" package to you.** + ** Please note: we are unable to obtain copies of vital records for you, but we can browse them for your information. Instructions on how to obtain a copy of the vital record(s) will be included with our findings, when necessary. + All fees must be received in USA funds only. We are not able to accept foreign currency. If you are a foreign customer, please send the requested payment(s) via international money order or personal check drawn on a USA bank. Note: Your deposit money will not be cashed until your research request has been completed. Please be as detailed as possible with your requests. The more information that you can provide us in the beginning, the more likely we will be able to fulfill your hopes and dreams of finding that "little bit" of missing information for you! If our researcher feels your request is too vague to fulfil without further information, we will contact you asking for further information. We will attempt to ask for information 2 times. If we do not receive a response from you after the second attempt, we will return your uncashed check to you via postal mail.
