CLEARY
We are looking for: Bridget DUCEY, Michael CLEARY thought to have lived around Hollandale Blanchardville area. James Ronnerud (Jun 2001)

CONLEY
I'm reseaching the CONLEY family of Mifflin Township. James and Joseph appear to be brothers on adjoining property. I am getting conflicting information on Margaret and Joseph CONLEY--sometimes showing two different sets of children, and two different maiden names for Margaret.(DEWHAM or DONAHUE) It seems very unlikely that two different sets of Margaret and Joseph CONLEYs lived the same area. At one point there are 3 HENDERSHOT children living in the household, but no HENDERSHOT parent. Their relationship is listed as grandchildren of Joseph CONLEY. The family story is that Margaret and Joseph are buried in a field on that old farm near Rewey, but no one has been able to locate any stones, and we don't know this is really true. Running out of ideas on how to confirm these are the same CONLEYs or not. Sandra Everson (Dec 2001)

COOK
Looking for parents, ancestors, siblings, and other relatives of my grandmother, Matilda COOK, b. 5 nov 1838 Waterloo, Quebec Province, Canada, d. 1905 Plainview, MN m. George was the son of Caleb Barker SYLVESTER and Joanna WHITNEY SYLVESTER, early settlers of Mifflin, WI and they are buried in Graceland Cemetery, Mineral Point, WI with some of George's brother and sisters including Eben SYLVESTER. Thank you Kenneth Vance Olson (June 2001)

Children: Laura May, born 1869; William Charles, 1872; Walter Scott, 1874; Fred Thomas, 1878; Ira Edward, 1885 and three others who probably died as infants or young children before 1898. Where in Mineral Point is Edward DEVLIN buried? When did Caroline die? Who did children marry?
Sandra Devlin (Dec 2001)

DOBSON My ggfather is listed as entering the service (War w/Mexico 1847/8) from Dodgeville,WI. However, my ggmother listed Doddsville,WI as the place he enlisted in the service. Thank you Joseph Dopson (Dec 2001)

My g-g-grandfather, Emanuel DUNSTON, was born in Ohio about 1812. He apparently shared an Iowa County July 1847 land patent with Edward A. ANDREWS. Emanuel's wife's name was Mary. EDWARDS I am interested in John W. EDWARDS who was born in 1846 (probably in NY). He is the son of Thomas J. EDWARDS born 1818 on a ship from Wales. Thomas lives in Magnolia, Rock, WI, but John W. EDWARDS listed his residence as Ridgeway WI when he Enlisted on 10/28/1864 as a Corporal. On 10/28/1864 he was drafted into "E" Co. WI 6th Infantry. He was Mustered Out on 7/14/1865. Anything on their lives there and when they left Wis. Anything that will tell me more about where William GARRISON came from or who his parents are. If he is listed on a census report it might say where his parents where born. They are listed in 1850. I know it is asking alot but this has been my only lead. Marge Ivey (Mar 2001)

GOLDMAN
I am searching for my great great grandmother's family. Her name was Ella GOLDMAN. She was born November 25, 1852 in Linden (could have been the township and not the town), Iowa County. She died October 7, 1921 and is buried in Beetown cemetery, Beetown, Grant County WI. She married my great great grandfather, Friederick Johan CLAUER in either Mifflin or Mineral Point on March 25 1873 or 74. Her father was Friedmund (Freemond?) GOLDMAN and her mother was Maria Magdalena Helena GUNDRUM. I have no dates for her parents, but they were born in Germany.

Any help would be appreciated, but I am particularly interested in finding the GOLDMAN and GUNDRUM families in WI. I have found a GUNDRUM family near Milwaukee, but they don't seem to have my Maria. I have never found the GOLDMAN family in SW WI. I have found listings for present day GOLDMAN's also in and around Milwaukee. I have a photo of Ella's family and it was VERY large. I find it hard to believe that she was the only one to marry a man from Iowa or Grant Counties. Thanks in advance, Michael Hampton (Sept 2001)

LAMPMAN Searching for some marriage records of an Edgar LAMPMAN and Emily (Amely?) Adelia WOOLWORTH, married 22 Oct., 1857. The data is recorded by my maternal Grandmother but the other day I ran into a WOOLWORTH and started browsing this site (and backed up by several Emails) has a Emily (Amely?) WOOLWORTH married to a William Edgor CAMPMORE, same location, same dates, same birth dates, and same parents first names. We both think this is too much to be a coincidence. The WOOLWORTH data comes from a book, "Iowa County Marriages 1852-1857" copyrighted in 1874, by Gerald E. Fieldhouse and taken from Iowa Co. Registration of Deeds, P.108, 2nd from top, item # 680. They became the wards of Fr. Francis McGANN of Mineral Point. Fr. McGANN was still their guardian in 1868 when the family land was sold to Philip McSHERRY, probably their uncle. They do not appear in either the 1860 or 1870 Iowa County census. I am looking for any evidence of adoption, or information about other relatives or other McGANN family members who were involved with these two children. Thank you, Paul Hessman (Mar 2001 )

RICHARDS Looking for information in Iowa County, probably Mineral Point, in 1847/1848. I am looking for any type of information on a John RICHARDS that was supposedly killed in a mine accident, during that time. It is said he came to the states in 1847/1848 to establish a home for his family in Mineral Point. That being done, he sent for his wife, Elizabeth ROGERS RICHARDS and 7 children. They arrived in Canada to find that he had died in the mine accident. A James BENNETT went to Canada to bring them to Mineral Point. Later James BENNETT married Elizabeth RICHARDS, and they had 6 more children. She died April 22 1899. I have checked the "History of Iowa County 1881", but there are no listings about mine accidents. This information was found in the obituary of Elizabeth ROGERS RICHARDS BENNETT. Would appreciate any information. John and Elizabeth RICHARDS are my gggrandparents. Thanks, Pat Clarke Fogel (Mar 2001)

SHEA
The 1880 Iowa County census shows Catherine DENEEN (nee DONAHUE), widow of Daniel DINNEEN, living with a sister - Mary SHEA, a widow in the town of Arena (husband unknown). Mary had at least two children - Hannah (b. abt. 1854-58) and Daniel (b. abt. 1856-60), both born in Massachusetts. In 1870 these three SHEAs were living with Patrick RILEY, possibly a second husband of Mary. I am interested in any information on this family and its connection with the DENEENs and Newburyport, Massachusetts. NOTE: This is not the John & Mary SHEA family that also lived in Arena. Thank you,
Paul Hessman (Mar 2001 )

WHITMAN
I am searching for information on WHITMANs in Iowa County, Wisconsin. I've really hit a brick wall. My father, Richard Franklin WHITMAN was born in old Grand Rapids, Wisconsin. His father, Seth WHITMAN was the son of a Frank WHITMAN who came from Iowa County. Frank was the son of a Joel WHITMAN who had a farm near Dodgeville in Iowa County. Joel had 4 sons, Frank, Platt (married, no children), GeorgeR. (never married) and Roscoe (no children). I have seen Frank mentioned in Scott Winfield WHITMAN's diary and he says Frank married and had children but the family lost track of him. Frank's wife was Susan. This was my father's grandmother who eventually lived with them in Hibbing, Minnesota, where my grandfather, Seth went to find work. Of course, none of the grandchildren ever listened much to the grandmother's stories and they aren't even sure of her maiden name. They think in was O'SHEA or TAYLOR. Frank had four children, Nora, who married an ARNQUIST--no children, Carlson, who died quite young, Cassy Jane, and Seth. My father thinks that Nora and Carlson were from a different wife or possibly a different husband of Susan's. Frank was her 2nd or 3rd husband. Does anyone know of any of these people? They seem to disappear into a black hole. I've been looking on genealogy sites now for over a year and can't find any information. So these are the main people I'm looking for information on: Joel WHITMAN, Frank WHITMAN, Seth WHITMAN, Cassy WHITMAN (before she was married), and Susan O'SHEA or TAYLOR. I would appreciate any help anyone could give. Thank you. Sue Whitman (Mar 2001)

Would like more information on this uncle and his family. Most willing to share! Thank you, Barbara Cady

YOUNG I am looking for information on my Grandfather, Wilson A. YOUNG (I believe the middle name is Abraham) . On my Father's (Dale Eugene YOUNG) birth certificate, Wilson indicated that he was born in Highland, WI. (Iowa County.) According to a family Bible he was born in early 1897. I believe that his mother's name was Matilda Jane WILSON, but I am not positive about that. I know nothing about his father's name other than his surname, YOUNG. Wilson A. YOUNG died on 06/07/1932 at the age of 35 yrs and 5 mo (Family Bible info). I know that Wilson had siblings, at least one brother, but I am unsure of any exact info. My Father was only 5 yrs old when Wilson died and any information that he had was vague at best. My father, his parents, and all 6 of his siblings are deceased so I am unable to get information from living family sources, unless there are cousins that are alive that I am not aware of. Any information, (if there is any), on my ancestors would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time, Michele Young Turner (Jun 2001)
