BAHL Our Daddy, John Norbert McGRATH (RIP: 1918 - 1992), was born and reared in Iowa County. He was from Highland. In early 1941, he traveled south as guest of Uncle Sam. During the War, he married Mother here in New Orleans, where he lived until he died. Daddy's mother was a BAHL -- her birth name was Clara Adele BAHL (later McGRATH, though I have seen a photo of her gravestone which reads "Clara M. BAHL"). Her father was Louis "Louie" BAHL, whose funeral was apparently covered by J. H. LEWIS for the "Highland Press" -- May 22, 1903. See reference to this in the marvelous book entitled Service Record Present and Past: Highland, Wisconsin, at pages 190-190. Daddy's "Pop" was William Francis McGRATH ("Bill McGRAW"). The great work of a dear relative in Wisconsin, Joe Walsh, is teaching us about the McGRATH family (though there is still much to learn and we are particularly trying to find out when our McGRATH family first arrived in Wisconsin/the US from Ireland, and from what part of Ireland). But of the BAHL family, we know precious little, and of that, only from their public lives. Daddy was only 8 years old when his Mother died. The only Mother he knew after that was his maternal grandmother, Mary Ann McCARTHY McGRATH of Highland. Maybe that loss in his life at such a young and impressionable age explains why we have so very little information on the BAHL history. Thanks for anything you can do to help us. Mary Ann McGrath Swaim (Jun 2003) BEAUMONT I am writing in hopes of obtaining information on my ancestors. Jonathan BEAUMONT from England is shown on the 1880 census as a farmer, age 74 years, wife Elizabeth age 72. She dies in Iowa County, WI. Son of Jonathan, George BEAUMONT born 24 Apr 1836 at Yorkshire, ENG marries Susannah JAMES b. 15 Fev 1845 at Mineral Point, WI. She dies 14 Aug 1889 at Kearney, NE. Her father, James JAMES died 31 Jan 1892 at Mineral Point, WI. He mearried Lavinia ROWE b. 21 Nov 1817 Wales, ENG. She dies 27 Nov 1851 at Mineral Point. The children of James and Lavinia JAMES are:
I am primarily interested in Jonathan back to England. If you can shed any light on these dear ancestors of mine, I will be greatly indebted. These men were probably working in the mines. I am especially interested in the name of the ship (and date) that they came over from England on. Alan David Tils (Dec 2003) BURNS I am researching information on William Jacobs BURNS, born in Linden on Jun 5 1847. His parents were James W. BURNS and Susan or Susanna JACOBS who were married in Linden on March 24, 1846. William Jacobs BURNS married Ellen OSBORNE on February 27, 1872 in Linden. Any information would be appreciated. Diana Burns (Sep 2003) COLLINS James Joseph COLLINS married Mary Cecilia DUNBAR (daughter of John & Ellen GRANT DUNBAR) in Iowa Co., WI in 1887, all resided in Mineral Point and attended St. Paul's. James J. and his family relocated to Denver sometime between 1897-1910, where he built wooden sidewalks until his death in 1910. They had the following children born 1888-1894 in Iowa Co.: LeRoy John, Irma Loretta, Florence Hazel and Genieve Mary who married a Mr. ELLISON. Mary Cecilia DUNBAR COLLINS died 12 Feb 1952 in Lakewood, Jefferson Co., CO. Can anyone help me fill in about this family, including the GRANT and DUNBAR lines? Susie Hillison (Mar 2003) COLLINS Bridget COLLINS, daughter. of James COLLINS & Catherine/Bridget CORCORAN of Hollandale, WI was born ca. 1865 in Iowa Co.. She married John H. LEWIS and had either 2 boys (Marion Harold) or 1 girl Marion and 1 boy Harold. She was always listed as residing in Chicago up through her last siblings obit in 1942. Her sister Miss Ellen/Nellie resided in Chicago also. Kate COLLINS and Thomas RYAN of Hollandale, WI was Bridget's sister and bro-in-law. Can anyone help me fill in facts about this family? Susie Hillison (Mar 2003) DAVIS Looking for descendants of David D. DAVIS and Hannah PHILLIPS who lived in Iowa County from at least 1860 until 1900. I am especially interested in their daughter, Annie, born April 1870 who married William M. DAVIS on 5 March 1894. I believe her husband may have been the son of John M. DAVIS, possibly the John M. DAVIS who appears on the 1870 census with his wife, Jane. My real interest lies in the John M. DAVIS family. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Nancy Davis (Sep 2003) DUNBAR
John and Ellen (GRANT) DUNBAR emigrated from Chicago to
Mineral Point with family that included: Mrs. Mary Cecilia COLLINS
of CO; Misses Nellie F., Agnes and well remembered veteran teacher,
Rose, all of Mineral Point. Nellie's 27 Mar 1952 obit said that
there were several neices and nephews of Kansas and that she resided
in Atchison, Kansas for one year. Can anyone name those neices
and nephews as well as other unknown siblings? Susie Hillison
(Mar 2003) GREENAWALT
Seeking information on David GREENWAWALT, my g-g grandfather who
was in Mifflin area prior to coming to California in 1850. I think
he arrived in Iowa County in 1846. On page 679 in the History
of Iowa County a list includes his name. On that page it lists
about 65 people from Mifflin that headed for California in 1850.
HALDERSON/HALVERSON
Seeking information on the parents of Gilbert/Gulbrand
HALVERSON who married Ingeborg (aka Emma) OLSEN. Any information
on his parents or the witnesses to their marriage would be greatly
appreciated. Thank you. Mark
Schmidt HATCH Nathaniel (1792-1860) and wife Catherine WELLS HATCH (1794-1856) lived on a farm with their twelve children near Arena, Iowa, WI beginning about 1850. I am told Nathaniel and Catherine are buried on the farm. They are my ggggrandparents. I am looking for any information on them and their decendents. Thank you very much. Del (Mar 2003) JEFFERY/JEFFREY I have been able to connect so much more on my JEFFERY/JEFFREY and TREVARROW families. I found William JEFFERY's father and siblings. They must have came to Mineral Point/Mifflin about 1845-1850 as they do show up in the 1850 census and William was born my records show in Cornwall, England. The TREVARROWs were here a little earlier I think, and then they disappear and I have not found them. Descendants of Edward JEFFERY:
If you have further information to share on this family, please contact Penny Kresl (Dec 2003) KUFFAL Paul and Elizabeth KUFFAL -children Charles(b. 1854), Agnes (b. 1859) and Jessie(b.1863). All were born in Prussia. They were last found in the 1870 Census for Highland. Charles KUFFAL married to Antonia Katherine PETERA, their children Frank C.(b 1877), Mary Katherine(b 1879) and George(b 1883). Can't find the record of their marriage or the births of their children. Antonia was a Catholic. Please contact Carrie Taylor (Jun 2003) LADNER At this point there appears to have been two of my g-g-grandfathers that were in Mineral Point in the 1840's. As it turns out, two of my g-g-grandmother's sisters married men who also were in Mineral Point. After Mineral Point, they first came to California and later became prominent settlers near Vancouver, BC. It is possible that they might still have relatives in the Mineral Point area. Their names were LADNER. Don Nevins (Sep 2003) MARTIN My g-g-grandfather was in Wisconsin probably as a miner from Cornwall. His name was Jonathan MARTIN. The only Jonathan MARTIN I have found in the Wisconsin census index is listed in Mineral Point in 1850. There is some confusion as to whether or not my g-g-grandfather was married while in Mineral Point. I have a note that Jonathan MARTIN sold his holdings and moved west in 1852. I don't know what those holdings might have been or if there might be a record. Any information would be appreciated. Don Nevins (Sep 2003) MILLARD I am looking for particulars on Charles and Betsy MILLARD along with Albert who settled in Mifflin township of Iowa county sometime before 1850. He was born around 1813 in New York. From censuses for 1850, 1860, 1870, 1880, and 1900 I have discerned that he and his wife farmed for a long time in Mifflin Township. They may have been buried in Mineral Point, but I am only guessing. I am especially interested in finding out Charles's father's name and any relatives that came to Wisconsin at the same time from New York. Charles and Betsy also had at least three sons Edwin, Myron (Byron), and William Harrison (Harrison) born between 1847 and 1851. While all information on these individuals and their relatives are welcome, I am especially interested in Myron who moved to Lake Township, Cerro Gordo County, Iowa in the 1880's. He was married to Torena (sp.?) Iverson and had Albert, Mary, Emma, Laura in Wisconsin and later Arthur in Iowa. Albert is the prime person of interest among this group. I am missing full names on all of these individuals as well as exact birthdays. I have fairly complete census information on these names but that is all. Thanks for your help. Mark Millard (Sep 2003) MOORE
My Grandfather William Henry MOORE's marriage record lists
his parents as David MOORE & Mary; to which a question mark
has been added ?Snow; {I did not keep very good source records
back there a dozen or more years ago.] The IGI files has a record
stating [only] "David A. MOORE, spouse Mary Eliza SNOW, Md. 23
Jan 1851 - Mineral Point, Iowa, WI." My Grandfather [who came here to Durand, Pepin Co., WI
from McHenry Co., IL] other records are a dead end, no other note
of parentage, brothers or sisters, but since he was born 1856,
the above may make some sense. Any info, questions, answers, routes
of research, anything would be appreciated. Thanks, Charlie Moore

If you have further information to share on this family, please contact Penny Kresl (Dec 2003) WILEY-FLEMING
I believe my grandmother, Kitty WILEY FLEMING is buried
in Dodgeville in Iowa Co. I think she was married to a Frank
FLEMING. She and my grandfather (Ben WILEY) were either
divorced or he died before she married FLEMING. I know she
was still alive around 1941 but have no other information. I
have looked at all of the cemetery information for Dodgeville
and have not found her name. If anyone has any information
on her please let me know. WONN I am seeking information about my grandfather, Russell
WONN, and his family. I believe his brother was Hubert WONN, who
was called "Packy". I also remember Aunt Mona, but don't know
if this was from the WONN side of the family. Russell was married
to Lillian BUTLER and had the following children:
