Article I. Membership

Section 1. Qualifications

Anyone interested in collecting and preserving records of genealogical value related to this geographical area, particularily Iowa County Wisconsin, and one who pays annual dues, is considered a member of the Society.

Section 2. Dues
Membership dues for a 1 year membership will be set by the Society to begin January 1 of the current year and end December 31 of the same year.

Section 3. Records
A record of the names and current addresses of all members shall be kept by the correspondance secretary (a non-elected position).

Article II. Officers

Section 1. Elected officers

The elected officers shall be: President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Publicity-Newsletter officer.

Section 2. Vacancy

If a vacancy occurs, the remaining officers shall appoint a replacement who will hold office until the next annual election.

Section 3. Executive Board
The Executive board shall be composed of the elected and appointed officers and shall make decisions for the Society whenever necessary.

Section 4. Tenure
Officers shall be elected for a term of 1 year, but may succeed themselves if re-elected.

Article III. Committees

Permanent committees shall be appointed by the Executive Board. Other committees may be appointed as necessary. Any chairperson may select members to assist them in their duties.

Article IV. Meetings

The Iowa County Genealogical Society shall meet every other month on the odd months (January, March, May, July, September and November). The date, time, and place to be decided upon by the presiding officer of the previous meeting. The Publicity-Newsletter officer shall be in charge of providing notice of each meeting to the news media.

Article V. Dissolutionment of the Society

1. All library assets (including equipment) would be given to the Dodgeville Public Library in exchange for their generosity of housing our library collection.
2. Cash assets would be divided between the following 3 organizations:
- The Wisconsin Room, Platteville (State Historical Society of Wisconsin - Archives Division) (50%)
- The State Historical Society of Wisconsin in Madison (25%)
- The Wisconsin State Genealogical Society in Madison (25%)


Article VI. Amendments to the By-Laws

The by-laws may be amended at any regular meeting by a 2/3 majority vote of the members present and voting, provided that the proposed amendment has been read at the previous meeting.
